About Legalize Ground Beef

Legalize Ground Beef is a series of 22 drawings by diewiththemostlikes, the artist Mark Wilson. Most are crowded scenes from everyday American life gone strange: a Golden Corral buffet, a hibachi grill, an Applebee's, a roadside fireworks tent, an office meeting in VR headsets with ground beef spilling across the table. Faces sag and melt, and eyes sink into dark rings. Every token also carries a poem by the artist under the same title. Interviewing him in 2022, Right Click Save noted that he had called his output half visual art and half writing.

He makes his digital work on an iPad. He minted these one at a time on a contract of his own, created through SuperRare, from the first, when the circus came, in March 2022, to the last, when heat lamps die, in September 2024. Eighteen of the 22 were minted in 2022. Fifteen went to their first collectors through accepted offers, six through auctions and one at a fixed price, and the images live on IPFS.

The title is a phrase he keeps returning to. Asked what ground beef means to him, he ended his answer with "I love ground beef. Legalize ground beef." His homepage opens with "create nothing. consume everything.", the words written on a diner's VR headset in we weren't full yet. In the Right Click Save interview he described altar of inconsequence as "this crazed influencer head that's bleeding ground beef." Four of the works sit on his own site among his "digital epics", each with its full poem, and the same pairing of picture and poem carries on in exist to submit, the series he began in 2023.

What to look for

Chain restaurants

Many scenes are set in chains Americans know by name, with their signs drawn in, from Golden Corral and Applebee's to Fogo de Chao and Cracker Barrel. The poem for one great day is told by Cracker Barrel staff who cannot tell a birthday song from a death song.

After 2022

He minted 18 of the 22 in 2022, then three in 2023 and one in 2024. The last, when heat lamps die, is the only animated work in the series, a GIF of eleven frames.
