About Chromie Squiggle

Chromie Squiggle is a single line of color, drawn by a short program 10,000 times and never the same way twice. Snowfro wrote it. Each token's hash sets the shape of the wave, the hue it starts on and how fast it moves around the color wheel. About two thirds are plain lines. The rest, some 3,700, are drawn as springs, pipes, thick ribbons, fuzzy halos or ribbed segments, and 128 HyperRainbows run through the colors many times over. In the live version, a click sets the colors flowing along the line.

Erick Calderon, who works as Snowfro, sketched the first squiggles in 2018 while he was running his family's tile business. He used them to launch Art Blocks on November 27, 2020, as its project #0, and 542 were minted on that first day at 0.035 ETH each. The script is stored on Ethereum. Public minting stopped in January 2021, after a little over 9,000. Snowfro released the rest himself over the following years, through gallery sales, auctions and gifts, and minted the last one, #9999, in August 2024 as a gift to LACMA.

Snowfro has written that each squiggle "embodies the soul of the Art Blocks platform." MoMA took in eight Squiggles as gifts in December 2025, one of each of the six types plus a HyperRainbow and a Full Spectrum, and the ZKM in Karlsruhe holds #100. Sotheby's sold the Perfect Spectrum #1780 for $635,000 in 2023. The HyperRainbow Bold #4697 sold for 945 ETH in 2021, the highest recorded price for a Squiggle.

What to look for

Spectrum

How many colors the line passes through. HyperRainbows lap the color wheel many times. Perfect Spectrums show every hue exactly once, and Full Spectrums come within one percent of that. These rare values account for almost every top sale.

Type

How the line is drawn. Pipe and Bold are the scarcest and trade well above the floor. Two of the three highest prices were paid for a HyperRainbow Bold and a HyperRainbow Pipe.

Color Spread

5 of 47 values

How quickly the hue changes along the line. The lower the number, the more colors a Squiggle shows. Collectors call a Normal or Bold with Spread 5 a CS5, and only 80 exist.
