Meebit #6337
Meebit #6337, a Skeleton in a black suit, sold at Christie's Hong Kong in 2021

About Meebits

Meebits are 20,000 characters built from voxels, small cubes that do for 3D what pixels do for a flat picture. Larva Labs made them as avatars for games and virtual worlds. An algorithm dresses each figure in its own hair, hat, shirt, trousers and shoes. Most are human. The rest are pigs, elephants, robots, skeletons, 18 Visitors and five Dissected, whose clear heads show what is inside. Some clothes carry the studio's own labels: an Autoglyph on a shirt, LL on sneakers, and Snoutz, the code name from when every prototype was a pig.

The contract went live on May 3, 2021. Owners of a CryptoPunk or an Autoglyph could claim one free Meebit for each, and 9,000 more went on sale that afternoon in an auction priced to fall over a week. They were gone the same day. Five days later a collector who could read the traits of unminted Meebits in advance cancelled claims until he drew a Visitor, #16647. Larva Labs paused claims and offered to mint the rest itself. Owners can still download their Meebit's 3D models, a print-ready version among them. The files live on a server, not onchain.

In 2021 a Dissected and a double-faced pig each topped DappRadar's weekly list of NFT sales, and Christie's Hong Kong sold #6337, a Skeleton in a black suit. In March 2022 collectors solved a puzzle Larva Labs had set soon after launch: the jersey numbers of 64 pigs in Snoutz Jerseys formed the private key to a wallet holding #2858. That month Larva Labs sold the rights to Yuga Labs, which sold them to The Meebit Company in February 2025. Its license lets owners use their own Meebit's art commercially, with no cap on revenue, while they hold it.

What to look for

Type

The character under the outfit, and the trait that matters most. About 94 percent are Human. Pigs and Elephants are uncommon, Robots and Skeletons rare, and there are only 18 Visitors and 5 Dissected. Nearly every record sale of 2021, and the Christie's lot, is one of the rare types.

Shirt

9 of 35 values

Some shirts point back to Larva Labs' own work. Six Meebits wear a Glyph Shirt printed with an Autoglyph, and 26 a Punk Tee with a punk's face. Snoutz pieces carry the code name the project had while every Meebit was still a pig.

Hat

5 of 8 values

About one Meebit in five wears something on its head. The Snoutz Cap, on 79, is the rarest, with brimmed hats and bandanas next.

Shoes

6 of 23 values

Larva Labs put its LL initials on nine shoe styles, worn by 861 Meebits. LL Alien, on 13, is the rarest of them. Five Meebits have no shoes at all.

Notable pieces

Outputs with an auction, museum or record-sale story.
