About ICXN
ICXN is a set of 500 animated works by XCOPY, made entirely in code. Each one plays out a pattern of square pixels on black, in a small set of colors. An output draws from one color family or from two, out of ten with names such as demon, lolz, mouthwash and tech-salmon. The pieces are responsive, so they adapt to the screen they play on. The project's description, set in its contract, runs to two words: "500 icxns."
ICXN came out on November 20, 2024, as the first project on XCORE, XCOPY's own contract on Art Blocks Engine. Art Blocks calls it an independent release from the artist's studio. The code was written with Aaron Penne. XCOPY minted the first 50 to his own wallet that day. The sale opened on November 21 at a fixed 0.42 ETH, and all 500 were minted by the next afternoon. The script is stored on Ethereum, and each image was generated from it at the moment of minting.
ICXN is in the public domain under CC0, as XCOPY's work has been since August 2022, and the license is written into the contract itself. His site files it under On-Chain, next to Pixelchain, a series of 16 works from 2020. The collector Jediwolf called ICXN "a natural continuation" of that series. Twenty-seven outputs carry a special trait, doom on sixteen of them and cc0 on eleven. About one in five is a monochrome, drawn in a single color family.
