About Tyler Hobbs
Tyler Hobbs is a visual artist based in Austin, Texas. He studied computer science at the University of Texas at Austin, writes his own generative algorithms and works with plotters and paint. His pieces set strict computational structure against the looser order of the natural world, and his statement asks what separates people from machines.
Fidenza came out on Art Blocks Curated in June 2021. Its 999 outputs come from one algorithm built on flow fields, a technique he has written about on his site. Late that year, collectors paid for half of Incomplete Control's 100 works before any had been seen, then minted them in person at Bright Moments in New York. In 2022 he released QQL with the artist Dandelion Mané, named Dandelion Wist in the launch coverage. Pace described it as a way for collectors to become "co-creators" of each work.
Much of the practice leaves the screen. Pace showed QQL: Analogs, twelve large paintings based on QQL outputs, in New York in 2023, the gallery's first exhibition built around one artist's web3 project. Unit London gave him the solo show Mechanical Hand that same year. Day Gardens followed in 2025 with laCollection, half of its works paired with textured prints on wood panels. From Noise appeared at Zero 10 in Art Basel Miami Beach that December.
LACMA holds Connected for the Moment I and the drawing Discrete Affection #3. SFMOMA holds Careless and Well-Intentioned #4. His work has appeared in auctions at Christie's, Sotheby's and Phillips.
