About Manolo Gamboa Naon

Manolo Gamboa Naon, also called Manoloide, is an Argentine visual artist and creative coder. He started making images at thirteen with Flash and moved to Processing after learning it in a design course. His pictures are built from basic shapes, lines and color, and he has said that "the most beautiful parts of the work are born from the errors."

In 2018 Artnome published his first interview in English, in which Jason Bailey called him a generative art prodigy. Works from that year include CUDA and the Mantel images, among them Mantel Rojo. Kate Vass Galerie in Zürich included him in Automat und Mensch (2019), a survey of seventy years of generative art, and in The Game of Life (2020), an online show partly in tribute to the mathematician John Conway. Sotheby's New York sold CUDA in its Natively Digital 1.3: Generative Art sale in April 2022.

He moved to a studio in Berlin in 2019, and in 2020, back in Argentina, he stopped coding for several months. In March 2021 he returned with uneasy dream, a generative animation in 75 editions released on Feral File as part of Social Codes, a show curated by Casey Reas. He told Kate Vass it was the project he had worked on longest. That November the gallery opened his solo show 88 Allegories: 88 generative works of flowers, numbers and shapes that together form one composition, also arranged in eight fine art prints.
