Justin Aversano

Justin Aversano is an American photographer who works mostly on film. He graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York with a BFA in photography in 2014, and in 2015 he co-founded SaveArtSpace with Travis Rix, a nonprofit that places community art in public advertising space. Cognition, a year-long mixed media series of collage, painting and photography begun in May 2014 after his mother died, ran to 364 works.

Twin Flames is his best known series: portraits of 100 sets of twins, shot on Polaroid, 120 and 4x5 film between May 2017 and July 2018. Christie's called it an elegy to the twin the artist never knew. He minted the portraits as NFTs in February 2021. That June, Sotheby's offered Twin Flames #49 in its Natively Digital sale. In October, Twin Flames #83. Bahareh & Farzaneh became the first NFT offered in a Christie's Photographs auction, sold together with prints of all 100 portraits. LACMA received Twin Flames #64 in 2023 as part of Cozomo de' Medici's gift.

In fall 2021 he co-founded Quantum Art, an NFT platform built around photography, with Kris Graves, Alexx Shadow and Jonas Lamis. Smoke and Mirrors followed: black and white portraits of 78 artists, astrologers, psychics and other mystics, each cast as a tarot card and then printed as a silkscreen on papyrus. It was shown at Gabba Gallery in Los Angeles and EXPANDED.ART in Berlin in 2023, and Omega Arcana closes it with new cards drawn from the astrological signs. Moments of the Unknown gathers ten second Super 8 portraits filmed over 366 days of travel, one for each date of the year. Nguyen Wahed in New York showed the full film for the first time in 2026.
