About Joe Pease

Joe Pease is a self-taught video artist who grew up in Australia and now lives in Southern California. He found his way to film through skateboarding. As a kid he watched skate videos with his older brother, and the comic skits Spike Jonze cut between the skating in Girl Skateboards' Mouse stayed with him. He later made skate edits with his brothers and went on to freelance in motion graphics, music videos and campaign work, learning Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects mostly from online tutorials.

His loops are composited from filmed footage of people, props, city streets and office desks, some of it shot by the artist himself. He layers the pieces in the edit so that small everyday movements repeat in step and an ordinary scene turns strange. For years the work lived only on Instagram. He minted his first NFT on Ethereum in May 2021 and released 22 one-of-one videos over the next three years, among them Disorder and Dig Yourself Out.

From October to November 2024 he was artist in residence at Glitch Marfa in Texas. The residency ended with everything vs nothing, thirty 1/1/x videos, each an expanded fragment of one original video that will never be minted, shown in Marfa during Art Blocks Weekend. In December 2025 the gallery Nguyen Wahed showed his video zero dollar man at Art Basel Miami Beach, in Zero 10, the fair's new section for digital art.
