About Jeff Davis
Jeff Davis began as a painter and printmaker. He studied mathematics and studio art at Lawrence University, then earned an MFA in painting and drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Around 1999 he moved to design software and digital printing, and about ten years later he found Processing, which let code make his compositional and color choices inside a fixed set of rules: right angles, whole number ratios, flat color. He names Sol LeWitt and Josef Albers among his influences, and he wrote two textbooks, Foundations of Design and Foundations of Color.
He joined SuperRare in 2019. In November 2020 Construction Token became one of the first three projects on Art Blocks, alongside Snowfro's Chromie Squiggle and DCA's Genesis: 500 compositions of rectangles, most of them in a single hue. ZKM in Karlsruhe collected Construction Tokens with the other early Art Blocks drops. View Card turns the windows and weather of high rise buildings into interactive abstractions.
From 2021 he worked with Bright Moments, which showed Portal, his first animated work, in Venice, California, and Reflection, screens of shifting color about past relationships, in New York. He made Schema with DRIFT for Pace Verso and Art Blocks, and Optimism, a stained glass project, with TRAME. Sotheby's and Phillips have offered his work at auction. He was Art Blocks' Chief Creative Officer from 2021 to 2023 and co-founded the Generative Art Foundation in 2025. The Francisco Carolinum in Linz also holds his work.
