About Grant Riven Yun
Grant Riven Yun is an American-Korean digital artist who grew up in San Jose, California, and is based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he also trained in medicine. He made his first digital pictures in 2016 and 2017 in Microsoft PowerPoint, stacking simple shapes into silhouettes, a constraint that still shows in his flat, minimal style. He now builds vector illustrations from his own photographs of roads, farms, gas stations and quiet neighborhoods. He calls the style Neo-Precisionism, after the American Precisionists, and names Grant Wood and Ed Ruscha among his influences.
From 2021 he minted 1/1 works on SuperRare in series such as Midwest and California. The Alien, from his Space series, and Laundry, from his Northeast series, are among his highest recorded sales. Bedtime, a Midwest work, sold at Sotheby's New York in 2024 in its Grails: Starry Night sale. In 2021 he and Andrew Mitchell released Primera, 400 generative compositions written in p5.js and stored onchain, and in 2022 he issued the Life In Japan editions, drawn from memories of Korea and Japan.
With Avant Arte he made the editions En Route and Fall, and the solo show Growing Up, held at Soft Corner in Seoul in 2024: nine works on his Korean-American upbringing. In 2023 he was one of fifteen artists who launched MoMA Postcard. SPACES, shown at Fellowship in London in 2025, looks at offices and workplaces changed by automation and remote work, and used AI image tools as a sketching step.
