FVCKRENDER

FVCKRENDER is a self-taught 3D artist, born in Montreal and based in Vancouver. He turned to digital renders after a cycling injury left him without feeling on the left side of his body, and he learned 3D software during breaks from a restaurant job. The name comes from an old laptop that could take up to an hour to render a single frame. By 2023 he had made close to 3,000 renders, one a day for eight years.

His pictures are glossy and futuristic: chrome bodies and hands, crystals, snakes and flowers lit in hard, colored light. He has described the work as a diary of his struggle with anxiety and depression. After years of commercial work he moved to NFTs, starting on SuperRare and Nifty Gateway. In June 2021 Sotheby's sold his video SHIFT// in Natively Digital, a curated NFT sale, and in July Christie's sold INTUITION// online. He also released FVCK_CRYSTAL//, 4,169 generated stones whose holders help shape LVCIDIA, his metaverse project. His renders from 2015 to 2017 are collected in FVCKRENDER ARCHIVE//.

He has worked with Dior, Swarovski and LeBron James, and made visuals for a Lil Nas X album. In August 2023 his first solo show outside Canada, Catch the Light, filled a three-storey wall of LED screens on Oxford Street in London for a month, set to a soundtrack by the composer The Holy.
