About Drifter Shoots

Isaac "Drift" Wright is an American photographer and US Army veteran who works as Drifter Shoots. He climbs bridges, towers and skyscrapers without permission and photographs cities from their highest points. Arrests for those climbs in several states kept him in jail for months, and The New York Times put his story on its front page in June 2021.

Where My Vans Go is his best known series: photographs of his sneakers hanging over cities, bridges and landmarks across the United States, made over three years and minted as NFTs from August 2021. In March 2022 Sotheby's London sold a print of Whatever It Takes together with its NFT, and Sotheby's New York sold Where My Vans Go #9 in 2023. In 2022 he released First Day Out, a photograph that sold more than 10,000 editions, with part of the proceeds going to The Bail Project.

Robert Mann Gallery in New York represents him. Its 2025 show Coming Home was his first exhibition in New York City, four years after To The Moon and Never Back at Miller Gallery in Cincinnati. His photobook It Was Never Dark gathers seven years of work from five continents with writing and records from his time in jail. Drift, a documentary directed by Deon Taylor that he shot and executive produced, won Best Breakthrough Documentary at the San Diego International Film Festival in 2026.
