The Grapes of Wrath or The Conference

'The Grapes of Wrath' is one of the few books that come to mind after reading, as it celebrates family values at the grass roots, in Steinbeck's brilliant way, despite the changing times. A central scene for me is this one: the family at the beginning, around the fire, before the road trip begins. I hope some of that atmosphere comes out here. Which character is Tom, do you think? Pencil drawing enhanced digitally and mixed with photo-textures. The roof of the house is texture from an old farmhouse door I photographed. The harvester is a photo, as is the sun and the fire flames. Other textures within the image itself (through the frame etc.) are photographic: a tree-stump, leaves, wood and paper for the whole rustic effect. Includes Steinbeck's actual signature.
