Heart of Gold

I was remembering the song "Heart of Gold" by Neil Young when I was working with a picture of a glass pendant I had made some years ago, called "Infinity" (to be exact, there were two very similar pendants and they had been named "Nugget" and "Infinity". I don't remember which title had been there first and if they had shared the same title along with "I" and "II" at any moment. "Nugget" had mainly to do with the plain fact of showing a lot of gold, while "Infinity" refers more to the fact that the optical effect of the curved glass surface makes the gold "piece" inside seem to go beyond the exterior limits of the pendant). So I wanted to transform it into something related with that song, and obviously, the title describes an "object" I considered a good option to be realized. The "heart of gold" itself did not take me too long and I would like to draw your attention to the lighter coloured shape in the center, which is not really a triangle, but somehow is, pointing down. If you look closely, you see that the top edge is not straight, and the bottom tip is round, it could even be the picture of some animal, a bat, or a kind of moth; still, the first impression is that of a quite perfect triangle. The background, which shows a much upscaled part of the pendant, looks rather simple, but took me more time to achieve than the foreground object. I tried several different "far backgrounds" and quite a pile of setups for the "near background" before the final result came into being. Always with the music in my head, I wanted to transmit what the song makes me feel: the wish to be a good partner for "the one" in your life, the difficulty, the long and winding road you had to go to find that person, and the doubt that assaults you again and again if you really are "the one" for the person by your side. The foreground image is like the lyrics of the song: clear to see and easy to distinguish; the background is like the music, or even only a part of it, like one of the instruments you can hardly appreciate but that has a huge influence on the subconscious.
