Description

Further journeying into acrylic paint pouring, vector and glitch art manipulations, this piece explores deeper into surreal realms and influences of Japanese Folklore and Superflat styles. The artist Takashi Murakami was a huge influence in this artwork, and my vectoral technique is a little more detailed as it picked out the unusual features of the glitched paint pouring scan. There was a wonderful emergence of dragons and creatures, which I picked out with vector shapes and this was all down to the unusual way which the scanned file glitched. The colour channels were shifted to create even more warped and phantom like shapes.

In Japanese folklore, Bakemono are shapeshifting spirits, they are supernatural creatures that take on a temporary transformation, their true form may be a type of animal but often they disguise themselves as humans or terrifying beasts. They are bizarre apparitions, and so the glitch style and warped vectors catch the captured Bakemono as if they'd been in mid-shape shift.
