Human Survival, According to Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs

My life up until this year has been a constant battle with my own mental and physical well-being. I've catered to too many others' needs before working on establishing what I need for myself. It's been a problem for so long that I lose track of certain necessities once in a while and I wanted to put an end to that.

I work on myself constantly...always have. I'm not the same person I was when I was younger. I've come a long way, but I'm far from the end of my journey.

Each day, I take at least one step towards where I view as my current ideal destination. That destination has changed very often over the years, but no progress is wasted. I learn all I can every step of the way. It just so happens that on this leg of the journey, I have to focus more on myself and what will keep me going.

I need balance and this is where Maslow's work comes in. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs is a list of priorities that one should usually consider in order to remain a healthy and thriving individual. These days, the "needs" may have changed a bit with the introduction of asexual, aromantics, and minimalists ideals, among others. However, a good majority will find that most of these needs apply to them in some form.

I made this piece to help remind myself that I have to attend to my needs first if I'm going to help others. An EMT can save many lives, but if he doesn't take care of his own health? He won't be able to keep doing his job for nearly as long.

Thank you for your interest in my work. I truly appreciate it. ~Xenolania
