$-1217/5000 The Leipzig Tower is a free-standing Wartturm, which belonged to the fortification of the city of Halle (Saale).
It was built in the mid-15th century next to the 1819 demolished Galgtor, which is why he wore the name Galgtorturm until the mid-19th century. The tower has a height of 44 m. From there, the Galgberg (today's Riebeckplatz) could be overlooked and the city warned of approaching dangers from outside and fire within the city. The building, originally called "the round tower" because of its circular layout, is made of rubble and has a lower wall thickness of 2.80 m. The diameter of the interior is 3.30 m. The arched entrance door on the city side and the windows in the floors are of Gothic origin and well preserved. In 1573, the tower was decorated in the style of the Renaissance, a Welsh hood with four skylights and a lantern. In addition, a movement with two dials was installed.
