"Wishes for Ukraine" was created on March 9th, following a call for artists by MakersPlace on Twitter.
As there are two colours for the Ukrainian Flag, I have two wishes for the country: Freedom and Peace. Some people are willing to give only one to Ukraine, Peace without Freedom or Freedom without Peace, but both are needed and there is a fight to keep them locked together.
The war took many by surprise, in the middle of their lives and projects. At the time of the invasion and call for artist, I was finalizing a project in Hong Kong SAR involving 4000 photographies of padlocks as well as hundreds of custom designed locks. I mixed the personal project I was working on at the time with the Artwork for Ukraine.
The text on the padlocks is in Ukrainian, English, Chinese and French.
