This work is from a series of videos called Analog at Heart. It's a portrait of a Benin Bronze.
Benin Bronze metal plaques have been the subject of many controversial debates about the restitution of looted cultural artifacts. For the people of Benin City, they were a record of historical events for a society that at the time did not have the written word. They have now become emblems for all looted art because they have deprived the victims of their narrative.
Collect them as reinterpreted copies and send back the originals.
On completion, this series of portraits will be gathered for an exhibition.
