The New Religion - Sepia Edition

Is capitalism and wealth our new religion? In God we trust? Or is it the iconostasis of Benjamin Franklin that we pray to nowadays?

In this work, Mihov releases a Sepia version of the original of The New Religion oils and animation. The examined questions are the same as Mihov explores if capitalism has fundamentally replaced our values and beliefs in much the same way as a new religion. This version however is the darker, yet humorous, edition of the original.

The work’s blue background, which was a nod to art history's tradition of using blue exclusively for the rich and divine, is not substituted with Sepia. The gold chains and Rolex-like crown, nods to our consumerist society, have burned in eternal flames. It is a play of the duality which religion has placed in our minds - heaven versus hell. This duality is playfully illustrated by the two version of the work.

The original artwork is available in both physical and NFT formats, this being the third version, which is only in digital NFT format. The NFT was build using an HD photograph of the physical work, creating a unique digital print of the canvas and maintaining the fingerprints of the artist.

The work is part of the Broken Capitalism series by the artist, which has been exhibited with Hatch Art Project in Singapore, UBS and featured with the likes of Forbes and Mensfolio, among others.
