Vaeroy

As a landscape photographer, weather is one of the challenges I constantly face when I’m out shooting. Over the years, I learnt how determination, perseverance and a little faith can help in such situations and how important it is to never give up. This image is proof of this.

I took this picture in Vaeroy, a little island in Norway. As I was hiking up to reach this location, the sky was completely covered with clouds. Sunset was still a few hours away but I wasn’t really expecting for the light to break through. However, it was my last day on the island and I was committed to give it one last chance and hike to the top once more.

Summer in the Arctic can be brutal and that day the wind was quite strong. Not very fun when you are standing on the edge with a long drop below you and you offer from vertigo! But I patiently waited, until the clouds eventually moved creating a small opening and this beautiful golden light suddenly hit the scene. It was unexpected and only lasted a few minutes, but it was enough to add the magic to the image.
