Papa Legba, Open the Gate!

With the use of a projector the symbol of Legba was projected onto the face of the model while a beautiful Sun was setting upon the hill we had climbed onto and that's how this moment was captured. Legba or Papa Legba is a lwa/Spirit in Haitian Vodou culture. Legba often depicted as an old man but this photo is not a depiction of Legba. But a depiction of one who calls onto Papa legba to "open the doors!" for them. And that was who I was on the day this photo was taken. Calling out for help from the universe because a door that was meant to be open for me had suddenly been shut. Papa Legba is not only known as the Guardian of the Crossroads, standing between humanity and the spirits. But he is also a protector of children, and prophets. Legba is often invoked by worshippers who need help in finding new paths, starting again, or looking for new opportunities. Legba has an eloquence for being an excellent communicator with a gift for language as well as, a god of fertility and travel.
