Inspired by Caspar David Friedrich's "Wanderer above the Sea of Fog", I took this photo of myself after climbing La Plata peak in the Sawatch Range of the Rocky Mountains.
A rigorous hike of over 4500' of elevation gain and over 8 miles round trip, I spent my time on the summit reflecting on the strenuous nature of exploration and the rewards it provides. On the way up one can see vast fields of wildflowers and numerous Marmots and Pikas.
La Plata peak is one of the few mountains towering above 14,000' in Colorado. It looks over the towns of Twin Lakes and Leadville, and has a rich history of the Ute people, the Silver boom, and the wild history of the American West.
This is but only one of many of my explorations of the various 14,000' peaks (14ers) in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.
