$-Walking down a busy street in Hanoi, Vietnam, I came across a woman selling Vietnam Lottery tickets, motorcycles whizzing by her left and right. Before I ever pressed the shutter, I saw this image in my head. I quickly switched my camera settings to slow down shutter speed just enough to turn the motorcyclists into light trails while keeping my main subject sharp. When I photograph something that excites me, I experience flow. This image was no exception. It is one of my most cherished creations. Technically, it represents my style: using soft, natural light, placing subjects in a frame in a deliberate way, creating an impromptu performance from the scenes I encounter on my travels. Philosophically, it represents how humans relate to time. For some, time goes unnoticed as they hurry through their daily obligations, places to be, people to see. Others possess the art of sitting still, observing, and, hopefully, slowing time down in the process.
