what hung from the fork made no difference
the plastic tray it stabbed contained no nutrients
so long as the prongs shattered teeth and punctured esophagi
so long as the teeth regrew to destroy again
so long as the observance took place without pause
in the stillness of the sickening pageant we’d realize we were no longer hungry and hadn’t been for some time
"dying is not enough" is a visual approximation of the descent from human to husk. it documents existing in a state of perpetual salvation and slaughter. sometimes both executing concurrently. the distinction between pleasure or pain erodes in the intestines of the involuntary ritual. we relinquish ourselves to an imitation serving platter, satisfied that hands still grope blindly for something to fill their plates.
what remains is a feverish desire to satisfy. by any means necessary. and the diluted version of ourselves that is continually devoured long after the flavor has ceased. and the flogging of that empty flesh into something entertaining enough to warrant lifeless applause from a striped tent.
we'll never fully comprehend what was taken from us. what is still being taken from us. or why even in death, the dander in our keyboards will be used to rebuild strip malls for people to transact in.
