I could no longer tell the difference between carving or reassembly or which parts still held pieces that would stick
or if the knife I used over the years was too dull for even a modest incision
the joy diminished in unison with the efficiency of the blade and the potency of the glue
I dutifully filled and emptied the bowl anyway hoping someone would recognize me
when the pieces would no longer resemble a face
"dying is not enough" is a visual approximation of the descent from human to husk. it documents existing in a state of perpetual salvation and slaughter. sometimes both executing concurrently. the distinction between pleasure or pain erodes in the intestines of the involuntary ritual. we relinquish ourselves to an imitation serving platter, satisfied that hands still grope blindly for something to fill their plates.
what remains is a feverish desire to satisfy. by any means necessary. and the diluted version of ourselves that is continually devoured long after the flavor has ceased. and the flogging of that empty flesh into something entertaining enough to warrant lifeless applause from a striped tent.
we'll never fully comprehend what was taken from us. what is still being taken from us. or why even in death, the dander in our keyboards will be used to rebuild strip malls for people to transact in.
