Dutch artist born in 1973, based in Amsterdam. Trained as a sculptor at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, he has spent his career repurposing the visual idioms of the web — scrollbars, selection rectangles, button shadows, JPEG artefacts, drop-shadows — as the raw material of contemporary sculpture. His seminal Scrollbar Composition (2000), a HTML-based piece continuously displayed online for over two decades, was acquired by the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. He extended that practice on-chain from 2021 onward, releasing thirteen distinct NFT collections through 2025 (Ornament, Window, JPEG, Broken Images, Buttons, Coin, Web, Mountains and Drop Shadows, Selection, Bas-relief, Walled Garden, Wanderer, Waves) — each a small inquiry into how the materiality and metaphors of the browser become aesthetic objects. He shows with Upstream Gallery in Amsterdam and Office Impart in Berlin.
