Swiss artist and designer born in 1976, based in Lugano, who works under the alias ertdfgcvb (the diagonal of a QWERTY keyboard). Gysin's practice is built around the smallest unit of digital representation — the character cell, the LED pixel, the seven-segment digit, the split-flap module — and the deceptively rich animations that emerge when those constraints are exploited at scale. His writings and software experiments at ertdfgcvb.xyz have been foundational references in browser-based computational art since the early 2010s. As an NFT artist he is best known for the fxhash piece Towers (2022, 256 ed.) and for Descent (Art Blocks × Bright Moments Paris, 2024). With longtime collaborator Sidi Vanetti he co-produces electro-mechanical and LED-based works such as Wayfinder, Matrices and Red-Green, exhibited at Verse Works' Materialized show and Kunsthalle Zürich.
