## Description

This piece was done as an experimentation of sorts to see what I could do with a single glass body, stretching it and seeing what messaging I could get across with repetitive flashing. This piece is partially inspired by the music video from SOPHIE titled "Faceshopping"; the song touches on concepts of self and whether how artists present themselves make them any less authentic, as well as the consumerism of artists as metaphorical products. The term "WAKE UP" is a sort of political statement against the state of consumerism. We’re constantly bombarded with ads multiple times per second throughout the day, seemingly never able to get away from the messages, and they change who we are without us realizing it. "WAKE UP" is an advertisement for finding yourself. Plenty of artwork touches on the self and displays it accurately, but in the context of consumerism and how we go about analyzing authenticity, almost none of them really command you to look at it rather than asking. This is me telling you to look, and that’s why you’re reading this. Wake up.
