## About

Jack Butcher is a conceptual artist from Swindon, England, who lives and works in Tennessee. He spent ten years in advertising before founding the studio Visualize Value in January 2019, and he illustrated *The Almanack of Naval Ravikant*. He keeps returning to the signs people use to judge worth online, like the verification badge, and several of his works change shape according to what collectors do with them.

[*Checks*](https://www.gondi.xyz/collections/vv-checks-originals.md) opened on January 3, 2023 as a 24-hour open edition, priced to match what Twitter had just begun charging for its blue verification badge. Collectors minted 16,031 identical editions. From February 2023 they could burn an edition for an onchain Original and merge Originals, thinning a grid of 80 checkmarks toward a single check. [*Opepen Edition*](https://www.gondi.xyz/collections/opepen-edition.md), launched five days after Checks, grew into 16,000 tokens whose images come from sets that artists propose and holders choose.

[*Checks Elements*](https://www.gondi.xyz/collections/vv-checks-elements.md) pairs 152 digital works with monoprints that Jean Milant of Cirrus Editions drew and printed by hand. Christie's showed three of them in New York in May 2023, and *Checks Elements #82* is in the permanent collection of LACMA. Later works include [*Signature*](https://www.gondi.xyz/collections/signature-by-jack-butcher.md) (2023), made with Red Bull Racing and Art on Internet, [*Latent*](https://www.gondi.xyz/collections/vv-latent.md) (2024), 80 digital negatives paired with silver gelatin prints by PICTO in Paris, and [*Gas Wars*](https://www.gondi.xyz/collections/gas-wars-by-jack-butcher.md) (2025), made with Jalil Wahdatehagh for Art Blocks.

In December 2025 Visualize Value presented *Self Checkout* in the Zero 10 section of Art Basel Miami Beach. Each visitor's payment set the length of a printed receipt, and a split-flap display tracked the artist's running balance. X Museum in Beijing later acquired the installation.
